Description

MRL lift

MRL (Machine Room Less) elevators are distinguished from traditional electric elevators by the absence of the machinery room. The lift is located entirely inside the shaft.

This type of lift allows considerable energy savings thanks to an optimal management of the current necessary for operation and a significant reduction of electromagnetic stresses that make it fully compliant with Directives 2014/33 / EU and Directives 89/336 / EC on electromagnetic compatibility. .

Another of the distinctive features of a mrl lift is certainly the position of the motor; this is positioned at the head, directly on the guides, thus eliminating the need for load-bearing structures and specific masonry works.

The elevator control panel is located inside a very small cabinet that is usually placed next to the door frame on the top floor.

MRL elevators and safety
In addition to the traditional safety systems present in each lift, the Machine Room Less features specific devices specific to this type of system.

A frame fixed to the end of the cabin and counterweight guides blocks the motor in an extremely stable position.
A mechanical locking system of the guides guarantees full control and stability of the cabin position during maintenance operations.
It is possible to add a monitoring kit consisting of a camera in the compartment and a monitor in the cabinet that allows you to see the machinery with the traction pulley and to control the direction of movement of the cabin.
RELIABILITY
Over the past decade, MRLs have become the fastest growing product category in the elevator industry and the most installed elevator in low- and mid-rise buildings worldwide. Over 90% of the equipment sold by NEII member companies for low- and mid-rise building applications are MRL models. All major lift manufacturers offer one or more MRL models as part of their standard products and continue to invest significant R&D resources to ensure these products offer the highest level of quality, safety and reliability. Companies subject all their models and systems to rigorous testing and evaluation to extend product life and minimize maintenance requirements. NEII member companies report receiving fewer maintenance and repair failure calls for their MRL products, but the reliability of elevators, whether it is MRL or other configuration, depends on design, quality of materials and components, maintenance and duty cycle (i.e., amount of use).

USABLE SPACE
Since there is no need for a separate machine room or control room with MRL elevators, more space is available within the building. In the NEII-1 Regulations and Guidelines, the minimum space to accommodate a machine room for a non-MRL system for a single lift corresponds to a range from 6 'x 7' to 8'2 "x 18'6", with multiple lift groups which require much larger rooms. The more than 100 square feet required for a machine room can be used for other purposes, including more office space, parking, and more. In addition, the use of MRL elevators improves the ability to insert an elevator into existing buildings, thereby meeting the accessibility requirements of the disabled and supporting the modernization of elevators in existing structures.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The most common models among MRL elevators are the traction type that use suspension ropes or straps for cabin and counterweight. Technological advances in the use of these ropes or belts in machinery have made it possible to significantly reduce the size and power of the motors. In addition to the absence of a machine room or control room that require additional lighting and temperature control, it is estimated that MRLs can use up to 50% less energy than traditional models. In addition, some systems also use regenerative drive units to capture energy that would normally be lost when the cabin moves up empty or down under full load, thus providing additional energy savings.
