Description

Honey is a thick, sweet, amber liquid that bees make from the nectar of flowers. Nectar is the main source of carbohydrates that bees convert into sugar, glucose and fructose. Honey contains over 15% water, the bees in the hive cover it with wax which protects it from moisture and decay. Honey also contains minerals, amino acids, organic acids such as tannic acid, malic acid, citric acid and pigments, then chlorophyll derivatives and vitamin B complex. Dark colored mountain honey contains 13 times more minerals that flower honey is rich in iron. The value of honey is not in the excessive amount of sugars (76% carbohydrates), but in its biological effects, e.g. trace elements, enzymes and ferments. In other words, no food that we use has more biologically fresh ingredients than honey. Bioeffects, enzymes and etheric substances are best preserved in honey. According to international laws, honey is treated as a common food, especially honey is considered as a dessert or a product with which domestic or industrial sweets are made. Ancient history says that honey was used by the gods or holy people of that time and it means specific and rare food, while old philosophers and human intelligence used it as a delicacy and as a healing food. From history we learn that honey has been used as a delicacy, as a dessert and as medicine. In fact, we can use honey as we want and the most important thing is that we benefit from this wonderful product.

Composition of Honey
In honey there are: 76% carbohydrates (these are sugars of flowers and trees), 18 to 20% are water, 2 to 4% are important elements that humans need. It is for these elements that we consider honey to be very important for human health. As a comparison of the elements of honey, in one kg (1000 gr.), there are about 30-40 gr. healing substances which medicine calls ferments, enzymes, coenzymes, bioeffects, elements and microelements, fruit sugars, etc. This allows us to understand that the elements that honey has are much less found in daily foods. 3 to 4% of honey's substances are found in one kg of honey, while in other foods this 3 to 4% of honey's elements must be taken advantage of by many, many kilograms!

Benefits of Honey
Here are the top 10 health benefits of honey.

• Honey contains several nutrients
Nutritionally, 1 tablespoon of honey (21 grams) contains 64 calories and 17 grams of sugar, including fructose, glucose, maltose, and sucrose. It contains virtually no fiber, fat or protein.

• High quality honey is rich in antioxidants
High quality honey contains many important antioxidants. These include organic acids and phenolic compounds such as flavonoids. Scientists believe that the combination of these compounds gives honey its antioxidant power.
Antioxidants are linked to a reduced risk of heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer. They can also improve eye health.

• Honey is "less bad" than sugar for diabetics
The evidence for honey and diabetes is mixed. On the one hand, it may reduce some risk factors for heart disease common in people with type 2 diabetes.
For example, it can lower "bad" LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammation while increasing "good" HDL cholesterol. However, some studies have found that it can also raise blood sugar levels just not as much as refined sugar. While honey may be slightly better than refined sugar for people with diabetes, it should still be consumed with caution.

• The antioxidants in it can help lower blood pressure
Blood pressure is an important risk factor for heart disease, and honey can help lower it. This is because it contains antioxidant compounds that have been linked to low blood pressure.

• Honey also helps improve cholesterol
High levels of LDL cholesterol are a strong risk factor for heart disease. This type of cholesterol plays a major role in atherosclerosis, the buildup of fat in your arteries that can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Interestingly, some studies show that honey can improve your cholesterol levels.
For example, one study in 55 patients compared honey to table sugar and found that honey caused a 5.8% decrease in LDL and a 3.3% increase in HDL cholesterol. It also led to modest weight loss of 1.3%.

• Honey can lower triglycerides
Numerous studies have linked regular consumption of honey to lower triglyceride levels, especially when used to replace sugar.

• The antioxidants in it are linked to other beneficial effects on heart health
Honey is a rich source of phenols and other antioxidant compounds. Many of these are linked to a reduced risk of heart disease.
They can help the arteries in your heart to thin, increasing blood flow to your heart. They can also help prevent blood clots from forming, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

• Honey promotes the healing of burns and wounds
Honey has been used to heal wounds and burns since ancient Egypt and is still common today. A review of 26 studies on honey and wound care found that honey is quite effective in healing partial-thickness burns and wounds that have become infected after surgery. Honey is also an effective treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, which are serious complications that can lead to amputation. Researchers believe that honey's healing powers come from its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as its ability to nourish surrounding tissues.
Additionally, it can help treat other skin conditions, including psoriasis and herpes lesions. Manuka honey is considered particularly effective for treating burns.

• Honey can help cure cough in children
Coughing is a common problem for children with upper respiratory infections. These infections can affect sleep and quality of life for both children and parents.
However, the main cough medicines are not always effective and can have side effects. Honey may be a better choice, and evidence shows that it is very effective.

• It's delicious, but still high in calories and sugar
Honey is a delicious, healthier alternative to sugar. Be sure to choose a high-quality brand, as some of the lower-quality ones may mix with the syrup.
Keep in mind that honey should only be consumed in moderation, as it is high in calories and sugar. The benefits of honey are more pronounced when it replaces another unhealthy sweetener.
