Description

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are prosthetic capsules placed over the teeth to restore their shape, size and function.

To make a dental crown we take the impression of the dental arch concerned, then the tooth will be filed to be able to adapt the crown. Initially, before making the definitive crown, we insert a temporary one, with which you can chew without problems.

The Materials of Dental Crowns

What material to choose for the crowns? Metal ceramic, simple ceramic, semi-noble ceramic or zirconium? The choice is obviously linked to your budget and your wishes.

Zirconium crowns are currently the best solution for replacing missing teeth as they have several advantages over metal ceramic, simple ceramic and semi-noble ceramic crowns.

• Metal-ceramic dental crowns: they are formed by an internal metal structure covered with ceramic. They are very aesthetic and resistant.

• Simple ceramic crowns: these are made of porcelain or ceramic, suitable for patients with metal allergies.

• Zirconium crowns: they are the most resistant and are also 100% biocompatible. Zirconium also has a long service life and is especially suitable for posterior dental crowns, in which a higher pressure is produced during chewing.

How to Take Care of Dental Crowns

Taking care of dental crowns must become a habit: the artificial crown protects your tooth or replaces it because you have lost the natural one. You must therefore have a rigorous and daily care of your teeth.

• Always brush them after meals.

• Use dental floss or an interdental brush every day.

• Rinse periodically with mouthwash.

• Avoid chewing foods that are too hard.

• Have your teeth and dental crowns checked by your dentist at least every 6 months.

What Are Dental Veneers?

If you have discolored, yellowed or chipped teeth, now you can solve the problem and go back to having a white smile without any imperfections thanks to aesthetic dental veneers.

Dental veneers are very fine shells made of porcelain, used on the front area of the teeth of the upper arch to conceal defects in the shape, position, color and size of the teeth. Similar to false nails in their delicacy and finesse (they are less than 1 millimeter thick), thanks to this thinness they appear transparent against the light and have a natural appearance.

They are defined as real dental prostheses, since, once glued, they will remain on the tooth for about 10 years. When a veneer is removed from a tooth, in fact, it will need a valid substitute to recover its normal appearance, given that the tooth will need to be slightly milled to apply it. They can also be integrated with partial crowns. In this case the tooth will not need to be filed much.

When to Use Dental Veneers

• If you have teeth that have taken on a dull or yellowish color (due to smoking, for example), the aesthetic veneers restore the whiteness, more effective than the various whiteners.

• When you need to repair chipped teeth.

• To improve the shape of your teeth, if you have teeth that are too small or too short: the aesthetic veneers reshape their shape by making all the teeth uniform.

• If you suffer from bruxism, your tooth enamel has worn away over time and a dental veneer is a coating that will protect your tooth.

• To improve the alignment of the teeth: an aesthetic veneer corrects this defect, making your teeth regular.

How to Take Care of Dental Veneers

• Brush your teeth 3 times a day, after meals.

• Floss your teeth at least once a day.

• Book a regular visit to the dentist to check the dental situation.

• Bruxism damages the teeth and therefore also the veneers: talk to your dentist, who will advise you to apply a bite at night.

• Do not chew foods that are too hard: dental veneers are resistant, but not like natural teeth.

Also avoid smoking: smoking, in addition to damaging health, is one of the main causes of yellowing of the teeth.
